Embrace Failure – It’s Your Path To Success
Come a little closer. I want to share something personal.
Are you worried about failing? I was.
Do you try to avoid failing at all costs? I used to.
Is failure a dirty word? I thought so too.
With all these preconceived ideas floating around in my head, I decided to investigate what the word failure really means before giving it the power to ruin my self-confidence.
For fun I’ve also peppered in a few quotes you might find inspirational.
What Is Failure Really?
It’s something you do that’s unsuccessful. A deficiency of some kind. A misstep maybe?
“Failure is so important. We speak about success all the time. It is the ability to resist failure or use failure that often leads to greater success. I’ve met people who don’t want to try for fear of failing.” – J.K. Rowling
What Can We Learn From It?
In my opinion, failure is a crossroads. You can either ignore it or you can learn from it and make progress. Which do you do?
It’s an opportunity to look back. Your chance to find out what went wrong. If you’re able to understand why you botched something up the first time, you stand a better chance to correct your course and turn that defeat into a win next time.
“The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.” – Henry Ford
How Should We React To Failure?
Most people allow it to drag them down in some way. And I totally get it. It’s frustrating. We get angry, cry, or say the world isn’t fair, but does that get you anywhere?
With that in mind, I’ve tried to see failure in a new light. It shouldn’t be an excuse to put yourself down or tell yourself you suck at something. We should try to reframe how we perceive these defeats and instead allow it to guide us to success.
“You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space.” – Johnny Cash
Why Failure Has Everything To Do With Your Future Success
Failure shouldn’t be this taboo thing we avoid talking about or admitting to. It should be something that gets us closer to our goals. If you’re able to change your mindset, stay positive, and confront it head on, you won’t fear it anymore.
Let me be clear though. I’m not saying go out there and fail on purpose. Whatever you do, you need a plan and you should work that plan. If you still fail, learn what you can, and move on.
Am I a failure when something doesn’t work out as I had planned? Absolutely not.
Do I make mistakes and sometimes fail? Yes, of course and that’s okay. I may fail, but I’m not a failure and neither are you.
Once you stop fearing it, you’re free to push yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and think big. And that has everything to do with your success.
